Frequently Asked Questions
Q
I am unable to install myZen on my Nokia N95. I get "Certificate Error, contact your software provider" when I tried to
install it. Why?
A
N95 (8GB version included) has known bugs with Java applications. Technically speaking, N95 is unable to process
certain parameters in the Java installation file (.JAD file). Here is what you need to do:
- Check your N95 firmware version and make it is equal or higher than 11.0.026
- If your firmware version is lower than 11.0.026, then upgrade the firmware on your N95 by going to http://www.
nokia.co.uk/A4777088 and selecting N95. Install Nokia's firmware update application on your PC and follow the
process to upgrade your N95. It is pretty straightforward but will take about 30 minutes to complete.
- Then from your N95's mobile browser, go to http://ota.myzenplanet.com/ota/index.wml and select N95 from the
list. The installation process will begin and this time you won't get that frustrating "Certificate Error"
- After the installation, go to Applications Manager in your N95, select myZen and change the suite settings to
allow myZen to READ/WRITE/Network Access all the time. This way, you won't get the annoying "Do you want to
..." messages.
Q
Why do I get prompted to allow READ/WRITE?
A
As a security measure, mobile handset notifies the user whenever myZen attempts to read or write data to your mobile
device. myZen frequently scans your mobile device to determine if you have taken any new photos or videos for upload
to community servers. You can simply modify the PERMISSIONS for myZen to always allow READ/ WRITE so that you
will not be prompted again. On a Sony Ericsson mobile device, highlight myZen application and then hit the right SOFT
KEY. Scroll down to PERMISSIONS. Select the following PERMISSION options and set them to "NEVER ASK" or
"ALWAYS ALLOWED".
Q
My handset is not listed on the list of supported handsets, will myZen still work?
A
The basic requirement for myZen is a Java (J2ME MIDP 2.0, CLDC 1.1) handset with QVGA (display size is 320x240)
and at least 1MB of free space on the mobile device or SD card. myZen application was developed to support handsets
with above configuration without having us to test on every device but we still do our best to run a suite of tests to make
sure myZen works as expected. We are continuously testing and adding new handsets to our list of supported
handsets. Please let us know your specific handset requests and we will make sure we add to our list of devices to
test and support. We also love to hear from you if you are able to successfully run myZen on a non-listed handset. We
can do a quick test in that case and add to our list of supported handsets.
Q
Does myZen work on any mobile operator network?
A
myZen will work on any mobile operator network as long as you have subscribed to data services and your mobile
device is configured properly with correct APN settings. Some service providers purposely block RTSP ports
(connectivity used for streaming audio & video) to stop subscribers from using streaming audio and video services
other than offered directly by the operator. There may be ways to get around these port blocks, please check specific
operator settings at http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
Q
Will I be charged for using myZen?
A
myZen is a free service. Since myZen requires a data connection, you will need to get a data service plan from your
operator/service provider. You will be charged for data services by your operator. We recommend getting an all-you-can-
use data package. Prices vary greatly by operator. It is best to shop around and ask your operator to match competing
operator prices - often they match. We found that many operator web sites don't properly advertise correct pricing and
services they offer. It is best you go to the operator retail shop and inquire.
Q
when I open the application, why does it asks me to sign up for the service if it is free?
A
The information is required for one reason - if you change your mobile phone, you can use the username and
password to restore all your bookmarks as well as the communities you have subscribe to. Think of it as a backup and
restore procedure.
Q
How do I upload my videos to YouTube?
A
First you need to have an account on YouTube. If you don't have one, sign up at YouTube for free. Once you have your
YouTube username and password, follow the simple steps below:
1. Run myZen on your mobile device
2. Go to "Settings" screen
3. Select "Account Settings"
4. From the drop down menu, select "YouTube"
5. Enter the Youtube username and password in the fields and select "Save"
6. myZen will connect to YouTube and verify if the usename and password you entered are correct.
7. If YouTube authentication passed, you will be notified that settings are successfully updated. This may take one
minute or so to complete
8. Now, you go to the "Upload Settings" and select YouTube
9. From the screen, select if you want to manually or automatically upload your videos to YouTube. I say you select
automatic so that you never have to think about it again. Every video you take from your mobile device will be
automatically uploaded to YouTube. You will have to run myZen after you take your video so that myZen can figure out
there is a new video and that it needs to send to YouTube. This may take several minutes to complete so run myZen
and leave it on for a while. While myZen uploads the video to YouTube, you can do other things on myZen as usual.
myZen uploads the video in the background. If you select manual upload, you will have to go to upload screen and
select the videos you want to upload to YouTube.
Q
I am getting Error code 1015 and unable to connect
A
Some operators have forced a PROXY in the APN settings. myZen needs to bypass operator PROXY server to connect
to the remote myZen server. To fix the PROXY issue, you need to create a new APN for myZen use.
Steps to create a new APN for Nokia phones:
1. Press the MENU button on you Nokia and open TOOLS folder. Open the SETTINGS applications in the TOOLS
folder. Scroll down and select the CONNECTION option.
2. From the CONNECTION option, select ACCESS POINTS (or APN). You will see a list of current APNs configured on
your NOKIA. Press the LEFT SOFT KEY to select OPTIONS. Select NEW ACCESS POINT and from the submenu, select
USE EXISTING SETTINGS. You will now see the same list of APNs already configured in your NOKIA.
Select the APN that is assigned by your operator for mobile web browsing.
3. You will be now taken to APN parameter configuration screen. Replace CONNECTION NAME with MYZEN. Press
LEFT SOFT KEY to select OPTIONS and select ADVANCED SETTINGS. Scroll down to PROXY SERV ADDRESS and
clear any entry in the field (NONE). Press RIGHT SOFT KEY to BACK and to EXIT APN settings. Now you should be able
to use myZen without a PROXY by selecting MYZEN APN when you open myZen application.
Steps to create a new APN for Sony Ericsson phones:
1. Press the MENU button on you SE and open SETTINGS folder. Scroll LEFT/RIGHT and select CONNECTIVITY menu
items. Scroll down and select INTENET SETTINGS and then select INTERNET PROFILES. Select NEW PROFILE and
give MYZEN as the NAME for the NEW PROFILE. Then scroll down and select CONNECT USING option. You will be
shown all existing data accounts on your SE. Select the data account assigned by your operator. Press the RIGHT
SOFT KEY to SAVE and to return to INTERNET PROFILE screen.
2. Highlight MYZEN profile and press RIGHT SOFT KEY for MORE option.
From the MORE option, select SETTINGS option. Scroll down and select NO for USE PROXY setting. Press the RIGHT
SOFT KEY to SAVE and to return to INTERNET PROFILE screen.
3. Go back to INETERNET SETTINGS screen and select SETTINGS FOR JAVA option. Scroll down and select MYZEN
profile.
4. Go back to CONNECTIVITY screen and select STREAMING SETTINGS. For the CONNECT USING option, select the
data account assigned by your operator. Set the USE PROXY option to NO. Press the RIGHT SOFT KEY to SAVE and to
return to CONNECTIVITY screen.
